Best friends Evie and Scarlett have been through everything together: heartbreak, moving to London, becoming adults. Both had big plans, Evie to become a world-class violinist and Scarlett to become a household name with her fashion line. But then Evie gets a diagnosis that causes her to retreat from the world. Scarlett tries to find a way to help, but then in a single moment, Scarlett is dead. She never really saw how helping someone would lead to her death. Now she gets to watch as the man she saved, Nate, shows up at her funeral; watches as he introduces himself to Evie, who wants to hate him at first; watches as Nate does what Scarlett couldn't--get Evie to step back into her life. As Evie grieves for the time Scarlett will never have, Scarlett reflects on the small events of her life that made it matter.
