A "Cinderella"-inspired slow-burn historical romance with a paranormal twist set in Taisho-era Japan!
A browbeaten and mistreated daughter is cast out of her home and sent to audition as a bridal candidate for the heir to one of the most powerful families in the land…

Considered nigh worthless for having failed to inherit the superhuman powers of the bloodlines into which she was born, Miyo Saimori lives her days unwanted and unloved.
Her stepmother and very own father have little time or affection for her, and Miyo must suffer being treated as a servant by her half sister who, unlike Miyo, is blessed with the unusual powers of their blood.
Ultimately seen as nothing more than a nuisance and a drain on the family wealth, Miyo is packed off to the Kudo house as a bridal candidate for its heir, Kiyoka Kudo.
Whispers abound about the Kudo clan, the most powerful in all the land, but will the allegedly cold and cruel house into which Miyo aims to marry prove much warmer than the family she left behind?

Grades 7-12 My Happy Marriage takes on elements of the ""Cinderella"" story in Taisho era Japan--with a paranormal twist. Miyo Saimori has grown up unloved in her family. Due to her mother's death and her powerlessness, she is subjected to torment from her stepmother and half-sister. After years of abuse, Miyo is sent to be a possible fiance for Kiyoka Kudo, a man who has scared off countless potential brides. Miyo knows, though, that she must make this marriage work. Kohsaka's artwork is marked by a heavy sadness, conveying Miyo's deep trauma. This romance is a slow burn, wherein two people with past pains must learn to communicate. There's the promise of romance ahead and also a great deal of potential growth for the two leads. There are tendrils of larger questions to hook a reader past this first volume, particularly the teasing of the possibility that Miyo is not as powerless as everyone assumes.
